| How would you describe a festival that combines passionate collectors, adults and kids, education, entertainment and above all HORSES? |
|
That’s easy: it’s Breyerfest! The 2005 edition of the popular hobby show was all this and more. Breyerfest is presented annually at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park by the model horse company, Breyer. Although it showcases their models and the hoses that they are representing, it is entertaining and educational for everyone.
The model shown at left is of Fire Magic, the golden Friesian stallion pictures below.

| Because model horse collecting is about much more than the actual models, real horses are presented as comparison. Every year many special horses that the average person might not get to see are brought together and proudly demonstrate their special skills or characteristics for the admiring audience. |
|
From a random sampling of people at the festival, there were horse-owners who love models too, people who had only model horses and even those who had neither but were there just for the fun.
Also included at Breyerfest is a model horse show. This is designed to test the skills and knowledge of the model horse owner. The objective is to outfit and display the model horse in a manner that it exactly looks like a real horse in a real show. This means competitors need to study and perfect their hobby by watching real horses and learning from real horsemen. For more notes about showing model horses, click here.

| Real horses are presented at Breyerfest every year. This year there were 3 guest horses including the phenomenal Friesian stallion Fire Magic. The Breyer model above is of Fire Magic. He is not only exceptional for his unusual color, he performs haute ecole dressage in the World of Dancing Friesians show. |

The theme of Breyerfest this year was the Middle Ages and the warhorses used during this period, making this a wonderful opportunity to present the Spanish-Norman stallion, Romantico H.H.F. The Spanish-Norman blends the genes of the Andalusian of Spain and the Percheron of France to recreate the courageous war-horse that thundered across the battlefields of Europe. To learn more about the Spanish-Norman, visit their website by clicking here. |
| Also exhibited this year was Impress Me Shannon, a Multi-National Champion Appaloosa Stallion who has now been imortalized as a Breyer Model. He can be seen at Devon Farm. |

This lovely stallion, Dante, of Mystic Valley Fresians, performed a brilliant dressage quadrille with The Black Pearl Dancing Friesians. They showed the movements derived from training warhorses of the past. |
| The theme this year was the Middle Ages. When you think of this period in time, what kind of horses come to mind? War horses of course! This is the age of chivalry and the armored knight, of jousting and competition for a dear lady’s favor. Rumors of War provided the most exciting, crowd pleasing entertainment at the festival. Real jousting aboard specially trained horses was a hit with the whole crowd. The evil Sheriff of Nottingham battled noble Sir Ivanhoe for the honor of lovely Lady Marian. The totally non-biased judge of the event was Robin of Loxley, who honestly called the points for hits and broken lances. Sir John guided the audience through the rules and provided commentary through the event. For more notes about real jousting, click here. |

Other groups participating in Breyerfest included the U.S. Pony Club and youth groups representing miniature horses, Rocky Mountain horses, Arabians, and many other breeds. A group of miniature horses and 2 wheeled carts formed a drill team and gave a stellar performance showing these little guys can be just as exciting as their bigger cousins. The Middle Tennessee Arabian Association sent it’s drill team of youth members on Arabian horses who competed in the drill team competition as well. Additionally, teams of flat shod Tennessee Walking horses, Rocky Mountain horses and groups open to all breeds competed for the entertainment of the appreciative horse lovers. These teams worked hard to develop their routines and presented them with style and professionalism.
No matter what the event or exhibition, Breyerfest provides great family entertainment for horse lovers and newbies alike. As always, the Kentucky Horse Park was a wonderful venue to showcase the wonderful horses and is great pleasure to visit for any horse lover.
